The full explanation
“So, WiFi 7? It’s making waves, but there’s a lot of noise to filter through. Let’s cut through the marketing buzz and get straight to the facts.
Wi-Fi 7 equipment is available today. Based on IEEE 802.11be, it adds capabilities such as wider channels and Multi-Link Operation, which can use multiple links between compatible devices. Advertised aggregate radio rates are not the speed a laptop or internet connection will necessarily receive.
Security still depends on authentication, configuration, updates and network design. WPA3 is not unique to Wi-Fi 7, and a newer Wi-Fi generation does not make the rest of a network secure.
The earlier pre-release forecast in this article is outdated. Current Wi-Fi 7 access points are shipping. Check the client devices, firmware, supported features, switch uplinks and power requirements before choosing an upgrade.
Why harp on this? Because a Wi-Fi 7 access point cannot give an older client every Wi-Fi 7 feature. The useful question is whether your devices and applications will benefit enough to justify the change.
In conclusion, while WiFi 7 indeed marks the onset of an exciting era of superior connectivity, businesses must remain informed and strategic.
